Wednesday June 3rd, 2026 - Cooking with Mrs. Coleman

Hello Parents!

We had plans to walk down to Fish Creek Park this week with an Indigenous Elder, however, with the riverbanks nearing flood levels and the weather not cooperating, our plans have changed once again. 

Instead of heading to Fish Creek Park, our Indigenous Elder will be coming to the school to work with students in small groups throughout the day. In the morning, we will be hosting "Cooking with Coleman" and putting our fraction skills to work by making vanilla and chocolate brownies with our class and Mrs. Coleman's class. It should be a fun (and delicious!) way for students to apply their learning.

If your child has any dietary restrictions to dairy, please send them to school with an alternate snack to enjoy.

  Important Dates: -  Friday, September 26, the grade 3 students will be leading the Orange Shirt Day assembly.  Please feel free to join us for this important event to honour the experiences of children who attended residential schools. Recommended areas to focus on at home to help your child: - Reading every night: focusing on fluency (can they read without stopping to sound out each word),   expression (changing their tone of voice to match the punctuation and dialogue of characters), and  comprehension (ask your child questions about the story while they read or after they finish).  - Basic math facts: addition and subtraction, both with and without regrouping (this could be practiced using worksheets or card games like addition or subtraction war) skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, and 25s (a great activity to practice this is by counting coins) - Writing: spelling (you could also practice this skill playing games like 'Horse' using a basketball, net, ...
