Hello Parents,

Welcome to our class blog! This is where I will be posting weekly updates on what we have been learning about in class, important dates and events happening in our class and at our school, and uploading pictures of class activities.

Important Dates:

- The school Terry Fox Run will take place on Friday, September 12th at 9:00 am. Students are encouraged to bring in Toonies for Terry to support cancer research. If we reach our fundraising goal of $1150, we’ll celebrate the following week with a special “Wear Your Favourite Sports Swag” day!

Morning tubs:

- Create a summer scene using manipulatives in the class.

- Classroom scavenger hunt to helps students learn where everything is in the room.

- Create a name tag for their coat hooks.

- 'Finish the Picture' allows students to engage their creativity by incorporating random designs that are printed on the page into a new design.

Literacy:

- The class completed a spelling assessment to gauge their understanding grade 2 phonics concepts, and where we should start our targeted phonics instruction moving forward.

- Each student wrote about "What I wish my teacher knew about me" so that I can get to know them a bit better.

- We played literacy games with a partner to practice spelling and phonics skills.

- We reviewed the 4 different types of sentences that we can use in our writing and made a page in our Literacy notebooks that we can refer to throughout the year.

- We began reading the novel "How to be Cool in Third Grade" and will continue to read it over the next few days.

Math:

- The class completed a couple of math assessments to gauge their understanding of grade 2 concepts with addition and subtraction with regrouping.

- We learned how to play a card game, King Solitaire, which helps kids learn the placement of numbers on a clock. This will help them as we start our Time unit in math next week.

Social:

- We began looking at our Rights and Responsibilities, and what that looks like at school. We discussed how we are responsible for our actions, and how our actions can impact another persons rights.

Art:

- We began creating an All About Me poster, that we have been continuously working on throughout the week and will finish next week. Once they are completed, we will be putting them on display so that everyone can get to know each other better.

- We went outside with two other grade 3 classes and did a sit spot together in front of the school. The students drew a picture of their sit spot to add into their visual journals.

- We made origami bookmarks and made each one unique with different designs. They had a lot of fun with this project, and we will complete different origami projects throughout the year to build fine motor skills.
